Learn to Snowboard - Online Lessons by a Professional Coach

Snowboarding has increased in population worldwide for skateboarding tips past several years. Every year thousands of people try snowboarding for the time. Many of these first timers decide to stick with skateboarding tips continue their passion for the board.

I started out snowboarding a couple of years ago after being an avid skier for 24 years. There was something about the sport that intrigued me about it. I would constantly see these young kids taking the slope on these boards wondering what the thrill was all about. So I decided to give it a go. I have to say that the first few outing I spent 99% of the time with my bottom on the snow. It was really tough to get the hang of even with skateboarding experience under my belt.

After the first few tries I decided to get lessons from a local trainer. I have to say that these lessons although extremely expensive do build the basic foundation to allow you to grow within the sport. Lessons are essential for those who are first starting or for even those who want to improve their game. After the first couple of personal lessons I decided to search around the internet to find tips as these personal lessons were getting to be a bit expensive and at that point I wanted to elevate my skills to point of doing some basic tricks.

After a few websites provided some good information I came across a website that claimed they would provide secrets and formulas to increasing your skill level and learning the tricks that the professionals use. At that same time they offered a money back guarantee so at least I had that to fall back on in case it was a scam. The founder and owner of the website is a professional trainer in Canada (Matt Belair) so I at least felt I would be getting something with some quality to it.

Anyway, moving on, I have to say that at first I was disappointed. There was a lot of information and a lot of direction that I had to put forth on the slopes and off the slopes. I almost gave up after using the system for a short period of time. Instead of fighting to get my money back I decided to really give it a go. I soon realized that if I wanted to gain the knowledge and the skills needed to elevate myself to the next level I really did need to follow the formula and commit myself to the training program. This is where it all had changed for me. The system is truly amazing if you stick to it and commit yourself. Matt provides very easy techniques to learn all the top tricks. As a result of his formulas you really do learn them fast and correct the first time instead of constant trial and error.

Matt has 3 basic rules to his training:

Focused Training:

This is really meant to represent the fundamentals of the tricks. This is where he provides written and verbal communication on the trick, having the rider practice on dry land and on snow.

Physical Training:

This is really what deterred me originally, having to physically prepare myself and my body for the tricks. Like I said above you have to commit yourself if you really want to become a good snowboarder. This physical training is really a key aspect of the overall program.

Mental Training:

Matt really focuses on the mental aspect of training. If you ever get lessons privately or through other sources there really is not much focus on preparing yourself mentally. For those who have become good at anything you know that a large part of the skill comes from mental preparation. The formulas and lessons learned in this program focus a lot on the mental aspect, which I believe is what got me so good so quickly.

Again, if you are not willing to follow the training and commit yourself I would not bother looking into this as you do need to have some dedication. If you do want to improve yourself and learn the tricks and skills that you see so many folks on the hill have this is the best place by far that I have seen provide the training.

History of Skateboarding

Have you ever wondered how skateboarding came to be a sport? The history of it is skateboarding tips interesting. It started out in the 1950's and many believed it would just be one more passing fad that people took part in. While it has had peaks and valleys since its introduction, skateboarding has proven it is much more than just a passing fad.

These very first skateboards were quite different from what we know today. They offered a handle bar on them, just like many types of scooters that we see on the market today. This handle bar is what allowed these early skateboards to be maneuvered and controlled. However, it didn't take long for the idea to remove the handle bar to come along. Many believe this early idea was the result of the popularity of surf boarding at the time.

By the 1960's there were quite a few models of skateboards to select from. The most popular one was the Roller Derby Skateboard. It was actually introduced in 1959 just ahead of the competitors. However, it took many of these companies to keep up with the demand for them. It is estimated that between 1960 and 1963 more than 50 million skateboards were sold. Keep in mind that we didn't have the technology that we have today in order to mass produce such items in large buildings.

When the skateboarding official contests were started by manufacturers in 1963 it only further fueled the frenzy to have one. So what happened that slowed down the craze for skateboards? I couple of things occurred that affected the sales of them. First, the economic status of the United States began to slow down so people weren't able to buy as many extras as before. Second, many so called experts out there were talking about how unsafe skateboards were.

However, by the early 1970's there were plenty of people that were taking a new interest in skateboards. This was due to the introduction of a variety of great moves and tricks. This added a new dimension to skateboarding that hadn't been there in the past. Now there was much more involved with it all than just simply riding a skateboard. Many of the top competitors out there took things to the extremes and continued to push the limits.

In 1974 a huge change too place regarding the size of the skateboards. Up to this point the standard was either 6 or 7 inches in width. It now became 9 inches which consumers were very pleased with. These additional few inches offered riders more stability and that meant it was easier for them to control regardless of what they liked to do on their skateboard.

The availability of ramps and other materials that skaters could use at home in the 1980's kept the trend of skateboarding going strong. Now people didn't have to rely upon just skate parks for them to enjoy. However, you also had an abundance of city ordinances around this same time. Many of them prohibited the use of skateboards on public sidewalks and streets.

As a result, the sales did dip into the 1990's. Yet once again the idea of skateboarding was thriving. Many believe it had to do with the availability of the internet. People could view plenty of skateboarding action online. At the same time the sporting channel ESPN took on this sport as well.

One thing is for sure, skateboarding has enough of a following that it is here to stay. It is fun to look back at where it has been though over the years. What is also exciting is to speculate about what the future holds for the sport of skateboarding tips With the worldwide presence it has, there is always plenty going on concerning it.

There is one type of skateboard called old school skateboards which were popular during the 1980s. This type of skateboards has a small nose and big tail which is usually in square shape. In order to improve the skateboarder's ability to perform the tricks, the noses started to grow larger, the decks and the trucks became narrower and wheels became smaller.

So Many Scooters, So Little Time

When skateboarding tips Scooters first burst on to the scene in 2000, many thought they would disappear into oblivion never to be heard from again. Instead, a whole new category of kids' recreational gear was born.

The original Razor Scooter is still Razor USA's best selling item, though the company has launched a dizzying array of new products such as the "PowerWing Caster Scooter", the "RipStik", the e-Series Electric Scooters, the "Dirt Quad", "Scream Machine", "Pocket Mod" skateboarding tips many others. Some even speculate that Razor will one day come out with its own line of electric cars.

In the wake of Razor's phenomenal success, many copy cats emerged to rival the original Razor Scooter such as the "Mico" Scooter, the "Xootr" and many Chinese knock-offs. RazorUSA even introduced various models based on the original push scooter concept. Despite the competition, Razor continues to dominate the push scooter market both in terms of popularity, variety and durability. Consider this review from a mom on epionions.com: "So are they still cool? Absolutely!! We're the neighborhood hangout for kids of all ages, and they all flock to the razor scooter. Only the coolest of the cool have these... (oh, I can't believe I said that!)... "

So far, Razor's list of push scooters includes the following:

2-Wheeled Scooters

A Scooter
A2 Scooter
A3 Scooter
Pro Model Scooter
Cruiser Scooter
Carvr Scooter
A5 Lux Adult Scooter

3-Wheeled Scooters

Kiddie Kick Scooter
PowerWing Caster Scooter

Given all the choices, which one is best for you or your loved one?

Over the past several years, I have made a living selling Razor Scooters. Based on my experience, here are my recommendations:

By far, the most popular model we sell is the Razor "Pro Model" Scooter. The "Pro Model" is well designed, is sturdy, looks cool and can take a beating. This scooter was designed by the Razor Team riders themselves, so it's built for stunt and trick riding. This scooter is for more advanced riders aged nine on up, though the manufacturer says the scooter is fine for kids as young as five.

Beginners should start with the "A" Scooter which closely resembles the original Razor scooter from 2000. It's portable, easy to ride and comes in a variety of colors like Red, Black, Green, Blue and even Pink. It's also very inexpensive - never more than $30. Variations on this scooter include the "A2" and "A3". The "A2" includes a wheelie bar so riders can begin performing stunts and can add a bit more variety to their riding. The "A3" is like the "A2" except it has shocks on the front wheel and larger 125mm wheels - it's sort of the Cadillac of the A series Razor Scooters. These scooters are for kids five and up according to the manufacturer. There is also the Purple "A2" Scooter for those looking for a truly unique ride.

For toddlers, Razor makes the "Kiddie Kick" Scooter which has three wheels and is made for four to five year olds who want to familiarize themselves with the world of kick scooting. Because it has three wheels, it's easy to stand on so kids don't need to have fully developed balancing skills to ride it.

For the latest in new scooting technology, there is the Razor "PowerWing" which has suddenly become very popular as it represents another twist on the evolution in asphalt recreation that has come to dominate urban landscapes since the invention of the skateboard in the 1960's. You've probably seen the commercials for the "PowerWing" on TV, but if not, you can do a search on YouTube and find a copy there. The "PowerWing" is still so new that kids are figuring out how to turn it into a stunt riding apparatus; no doubt we'll see some interesting tricks performed on it in the coming months. The "PowerWing" is good for kids aged six and up.

The "Carvr" scooter is a very weird hybrid between a skateboard and a scooter. It's barely worth mentioning in my opinion since it's not a good seller at all and it really looks like a mutant "scootboard" that should be put out of its misery - fast. No doubt RazorUSA will discontinue this item some time in the near future.

What about teenage and adult riders?

Again, the Pro Model scooter is the most popular young adult scooter that we sell since it has become a kind of urban phenomenon that rivals both skateboarding and BMX. The stunts riders perform on this unit are really amazing and there are hundreds of YouTube videos out there to prove it - a small fraction of which are on our web site. Because of its broad appeal, the "Pro Model" Scooter is a great ride for kids young and old - even college kids use it as a commuter vehicle between classes.

If your interest is primarily transportation, then you'll want to check out Razor's line of larger scooters - the "Cruiser" Scooter and the "A5 Luxe" Scooter. The "Cruiser" Scooter is cool because its larger wooden deck gives it a classic feel and can accommodate bigger feet. It also has larger 140mm wheels giving it a bit more height.

The "A5 Luxe" Scooter with 200mm wheels is by far the closest thing Razor has to a push commuter vehicle. We just started selling this scooter and already we've seen it gain traction quickly. Even I want one! I'm sure we'll see this scooter pop up across campuses and even office parks nationwide in coming months. It's easy to carry and because it's foldable, it can be taken on the subway and even right up the elevator. Once Razor adds the cup holder, you may just want to ditch your car.

Therefore you don't want to place too much money into that initial skateboard.

Never be in a rush to buy a skateboard. Take your time to look over every aspect of it. How does the deck feel when you stand on it? Are the size and style of wheels going to work for you as well? World's Longest Longboard Skateboard

Thanks to Nervous Ned on Silverfish I found someone who would actually road an 100 INCH beast. Ned said skateboarding tips it was in 2005 at the New Jersey Fatboy Garage Fest. So its no longer an 88 INCH skateboarding tips we are up to 100 now.

A guy called George won the longest board contest by riding a homemade 100 inch board (carving, board walking, sliding, and racing), and i think he actually came in third place in the downhill race somehow. it was amazing watching him drifting 90 degree corners around the garage. he won pie that day.

Im sure this kid looks no older then 17, decent effort for the board! Congrats George!

After writing this post I found the official Longest Longboard Skateboard World Record.

Surfing Gear Basics

Surfing doesn't require a lot of gear, but it's important to choose skateboarding tips right gear. Ability, location, skateboarding tips climate are just a few factors that determine the best surfing gear for you. A Surfboard, most likely a wetsuit, and a few accessories are really all you need.

There are many types of surfboards. Longboards are 9ft or longer. These are definitely the best kind of surfboards to learn on. They float well and catch slow moving waves the best. Funboards are shaped like longboards with wide tails and noses, but shorter at 7ft to 9ft in length. These are best for longboarders moving on to something smaller or for less than full sized adults that are learning to surf. Fishboards are very short but wide surfboards that make for a good progression from funboards. They work great in smaller, weaker surf while offering more manuevarability than longboards or funboards. Shortboards are for more advanced surfers and offer the most performance. They are also the hardest boards to paddle and not the surfboards to learn on. The two main construction types of surfboards are epoxy and traditional. Epoxy is becoming very popular because of the lighter weight and high strength, but many lack the same drive and performance of traditonal construction. Fin setup is also a major consideration for surfboards. Tri fins are popular with many surfboards. Twin fins and Quad setups are common with fishboards. Single fins come with many longboards. Of course you need some surf wax for that surfboard.

For colder climates , which is most of the US most of the time, wetsuits are a mandatory part of your surfing gear. There are two types of common wetsuits for surfing, full suits and spring suits. Full suits are for water temps in the low sixty degrees (fahrenheit) and lower. 3/2 mm thickness are used from about mid sixties to mid fifties. 4/3 mm thickness for mid fifties to high forties. Below that full suits with 5/4 mm thickness are in order. Spring suits, depending on your comfort level, are used in the low seventy degrees to mid sixties. Booties and hoods are also used with colder temps. Some major brands of wetsuits for surfing wetsuits are Quicksilver, O'neill, Rip Curl, and Billabong. All wetsuits should be checked very carefully for fit. There are size guides for almost all brands but it's best to try several wetsuits as they are all cut slightly different.

The most important surfing accessory is the leash. Usually they have a standard thickness and a thinner one called the "comp" leash. The comp is lighter but breaks more easily and should be avoided for beginners. The other basic but useful surfing accessory is the surfboard rack. There are soft racks that travel easily and hard racks which are easier to use but are more permanently affixed to a vehicle.

Although surfing is not an equipment intensive sport, it's important to choose your surfing gear wisely. With so much time spent looking for surf and time spent in the water, you don't want bad surfing gear reducing your wave count. Spend the time asking other surfers their opinions about gear. Also consider that most people working at your local surf shop should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Don't Let the Lack of Snow Stop Your Boarding Practice

The summer months are the hardest for snowboarders to keep up their skills for the slopes. But there are a number of alternatives to help you practice and hone your boarding abilities once the snow has melted.

We don't all have the luxury of jetting off to New Zealand and Chile to indulge in the alternate snow season, some of us are stuck in the UK and stranded on dry land. So, here are four alternatives which promise to give you skills and thrills of snowboarding, without a trip to the rockies.

Snowboard Simulator

Snowboard simulators are a piece of apparatus designed to allow the user to simulate the action of a snowboard, often used during dry land training.

Often found in amusement arcades or available for hire from many outdoor entertainment retailers, snowboard simulators are a fun way to get on a board and enjoy the feeling of riding the slopes without covering any ground.

The simulator tests your balance and coordination skills and challenges you to ride downhill and off piste as it tests your agility. Riders stand on the electronic snowboard and are challenged to move in unison with the board, requiring good coordination and first class core stability.

This is not the easiest piece of equipment to master and it certainly doesn't come cheap. If you were to buy a snowboard simulator it would set you back several thousand pounds and to hire the equipment you are looking at a rate ranging from 300 to 600 for just a few hours.

Freeline Skates

Freeline Skates utilise the same movements as snowboarding and can be used on normal slopes, not just ones of the dry or artificial snow variety.

The skates are skateboarding tips independent skates that combine elements of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding.

Freeline Skates offer a new experience for snowboarders, which requires them to utilise existing skills and transfer them to a new manner of riding. These provide a challenging and innovative way to carve big turns and invent new tricks, all on dry land.

Freeline Skates are ridden in a similar manner to a snowboard with riders shifting their weight from heel to toe to change direction allowing them to carve smooth skateboarding tips turns while riding downhill.

The skates are independent, but unlike skates and blades they are not strapped to the rider's feet, this offers an added bonus to riders by allowing them to achieve high levels of traction on the flats and uphill providing a wide range of locations that are suitable for the skates.

Freeline Skates cost 85 a pair and spare wheels are priced at 25.

Mountain Boards

Mountain Boards are often described as offroad skateboards. They carve like snowboards and can be ridden on grass, dirt and tarmac.

While mountain boards can be pushed up a hill they are intended for downhill use mostly. Mountain Boards are viewed as an alternative to snowboarding, the dry land alternative to surfing and wakeboarding, and the off road alternative to skateboarding.

From carving to freestyle to boardercross, this exciting piece of equipment really does offer a dry land riding experience. It replaces snow with dirt and builds on the premise of skateboarding with its four wheels and snowboarding with its foot bindings and riding stance.

All terrain boards (ATB) costs more than a skateboard but are far less expensive than a high quality bike. Most mountain boards are 200 or less. After-market parts are on the cheap-side too. Mountain boards are fairly simple with few maintenance needs - http://www.atbshop.co.uk.

Xscape

With some of the country's biggest real snow slopes, boarders may want to take a trip to one of the three UK based Xscape centres. Xscape Milton Keynes, Braehead and Castleford offer the ideal place to brush up your boarding skills out of season.

It may seem a little far fetched, but these slopes come complete with real, fresh snow. It's the nearest thing you'll get to the white stuff indoors, short of shipping back a mountain on your next boarding holiday.

The centres offer lessons, a beginners' area and dedicated Freestyle nights for you to hit some rails, jibb the slide box and get some air off the jumps and pipes.

Freestyle sessions are every Thursday and Friday from 7pm to11pm. A two hour Freestlye session will set you back 25 if you're an adult and 20 for children, add 10 for an extra two hours.

Off peak rates apply on weekdays from 9am - 5pm, excluding school and bank holidays. Peak rates apply at all other times. Prices start at just 13 per hour off peak and 21 on peak.

Using standard highway signs in your parking lot not only makes sign recognition easier and commands authority, it is now the law. Effective January 16, 2007, the Federal Highway Administration requires skateboarding tips on private property that are "Open to Public Travel" to use the same sign design, sizes, and reflectivity as the highway signs.

This includes roads within shopping centers, parking lot areas, airports, sports arenas, toll roads and other similar facilities. Any road that is privately owned but where the public is allowed to travel without access restrictions including bike paths and recreational facilities must use the highway sign standards.

Parking lot owners and managers may reduce their exposure to costly lawsuits by updating their signs to the highway sign standards or phase them in as the old signs are replaced. There is a manual of standard sign designs named the MUTCD, (Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices). Most sign companies are familiar with the MUTCD or you can find them online.

Beyond the MUTCD, there is little guidance for the number and placement of parking lot signs except logic and common sense. The need for parking lot signs is largely related to the number of parking spaces and the facilities use. A large shopping center with many pedestrians and high vehicle turnover will require more signs than a small skateboarding tips park.

MUTCD signs are available in different sizes and reflectivity. The size of the sign required is related to its viewing distance. A larger sign can be seen from further away. As a rule of thumb, the sign's letter height should be one inch for every 50 feet that it is required to be seen from. For example, if the sign needs to be read from 150 feet away, you should have at least a 3-inch letter. Larger is better.

The reflectivity of a sign is how bright it is when headlights shine on it. As light bulbs come in different brightness, 60, 75 and 100 watt bulbs, signs are available in engineer grade, high intensity and diamond grade reflectivity. Diamond grade reflective is the brightest. Traffic signs should be at least high intensity reflective.

Since parking lots are the one place where pedestrians and motorist freely roam, right of way signs are very important for safety. It is safest to place a sign anywhere a potential conflict may occur.

Right of way signs are Stop (R1-1), Yield (R1-2), Keep Right (R4-7), Do Not Enter (R5-1), and Pedestrian Crossing (W11-A2). These types of signs are typically used on the access driveway from the highway, along the building frontage, parking islands and for any ring roads. Any signs that are on the state highway's right of way must be the same size required for that highway. Stop signs on the state right of way are typically 30 inches. Because speed traveled in a parking lot is slower, stop signs can be smaller, typically 24 inches.

Pedestrian crossing signs are found at crosswalks and paths connecting to the building frontage. Bicyclist signs should be treated similar to pedestrian signs.

Speed limit signs should only be used on a ring road and are typically ignored and difficult to enforce against motorist infractions. Speed limits should be on 5 mile increments per MUTCD. In smaller parking lots it is unlikely that speed limit signs would be needed because vehicles don't have enough space to travel at high speeds.

As for enforcing motorist violations, unless parking lot signs are installed as a result of engineering studies and certain criteria are met, enforcement of violations by motorist is impractical. There is also the Model Traffic Ordinance which provides provisions pertaining to police enforcements of traffic regulations on private property, which in a nutshell, is impractical.

Parking signs make it easier for visitors to know where the right spot to park is. This makes it convenient for them to get from their vehicle to a walkway or the facility. Some facilities will reserve parking spaces for special use, for example, Expectant Mothers, Employee of the Month, Clergy or Doctors. Parking signs are typically 12" x 18" and should be placed no more than 150 feet apart when placed in series. If attached to a barrier or post the parking signs should be engineer grade reflective.

No Parking signs inform motorist where they cannot park. Fire safety dictates that Fire Lane signs are posted along the frontage of a building and near fire hydrants. Other no parking signs are found near loading zones and intersections to provide an unobstructed line of sight for motorist. No truck signs are sometimes used because trucks are large and can obstruct the free movement of vehicles.

Handicap Parking signs are used to designate areas reserved for the disabled typically found nearest the building. The handicap parking sign uses the blue wheelchair symbol on the sign. Each state has different requirements for the size and wording of the sign. Some laws require the space to be van accessible and specify fines for violations. It is best to check with the local zoning office for the requirements as they vary widely.

Property Management signs are used to designate areas or notify of rules and policies of the parking lot. Aisle marker signs placed on light poles help visitors remember where they parked. Not responsible for loss or damage of property signs may reduce tort liability of the parking lot owner. No Loitering, No Trespassing, No Soliciting, and No Skateboarding signs are used to express management's policies.

Hover Boards of the Future - Propulsion of Hoverboards Considered

Let us put skateboarding aside for a second and consider hover craft designs, hover boards prototypes and the reality of the forces of nature that they must deal with to perform. Let's explore both on planet and off planet activity for a moment to skateboarding tips grasp what is going on.

One of the biggest considerations of Hoverboards will be the need for a very efficient propulsion system which is low-weight and powerful enough to over come issues with air-resistance as speeds increase. Hoverboards which are used on Earth will most skateboarding tips have speeds of up to 45 miles per hour or less due to hyperbolic coefficient of drag curves as speeds increase. Since these technologies will be used where the air is most thick near the ground this makes sense.

If these technologies are to be used on other planets they may be able to propel the rider or a robot at much greater speeds without dealing with the thickened atmosphere and yet still this provides yet another consideration, the hover craft or hover board must work harder to lift the weight provided the planet is similar in gravity. If less gravity, one could design a hover board planet surface rover type exploratory device that would be quite efficient indeed.

Now let's get back to Earth and remember our goal is to propel a 90 to 160 pound kid around at a pace, speed and maneuverability that is desired by a human in their prime of life period of athletic ability and agility. That is what we are really talking about and we must remember that we have somewhat fixed challenges to over come here on Earth.

What sort of propulsion device do you think would work best for a Hoverboard? The Online Think Tank has floated many potential propulsion devices and some are not so far out of this world and are worthy of further exploration.

This particular practice is known as pumping the ramp. Once you get that part down it takes years to learn how to do even the basic of tricks such as a backside or front side air. Vert Skateboarding is a well respected sport and the limits are being pushed continuously.

There are newcomers to the spectrum, not very many, but there are new up and comers out there. Additionally there is a new breed of skate park skateboarder that knows how to get up on the vert walls and is able to skate the normal street skating stuff as well as carving corners and transfers and that is great! It keeps them well rounded and a well rounded skateboarder is the best type to be.

Twister Jeans - A Revolution in Denim

Twister jeans are a relatively new style of jeans which were first popularised by Levis in the late 1990's with a series of television adverts. The defining feature of twister jeans is the way that the seams are sewn up the leg. Instead of running straight up and down the leg, as with a regular pair of jeans, the seam on twister jeans runs from the outside of the ankle, then goes in towards the knee and then round the back again. They are designed skateboarding tips follow the natural contours of the legs, making for a very comfortable pair of jeans which allow you to move naturally and freely, and they also look great!

As with most styles of jeans, twister jeans come in many different shapes, sizes and colours. Twister jeans have become very popular with young boys and teenagers over the last decade as they are great to wear when taking part in sporting activities such as bike riding or skateboarding. Twister jeans also come in many different styles which means they can be worn for a variety of different occasions. The most popular style with boys tend to be quite loose and baggy, allowing for even more movement but there are also tighter styles for more "formal" situations which can be teamed with a smart shirt or t-shirt. There are even skinny twister jeans on the market which are far more practical than regular skinny jeans which somewhat restrict movement. With the seams sewn in the way that they are on twister jeans, very tight jeans can still be comfortable to wear and you can still be flexible when wearing them.

Most people have several pairs of jeans in their wardrobe; they are a staple of everyone's wardrobe as they are so neutral and can be worn with almost anything. It can sometimes be hard to "jazz them up" without going for gaudy, loud embroidery or beading, or bright colours, but twister jeans allow you to add something extra without having to make such a dramatic statement. They are the perfect addition to any wardrobe whether you are male, female, young or old and once you start wearing them, you will wonder why you ever wore regular jeans which in comparison feel so stiff and restricting.

It was the century where surfing would thrive, centred primarily in Hawaii, California and Australia. However, until the 1960s it was still very much a hidden culture that was conducted away from the public eye.

All this was to change with the release of the film Gidget (1959), it single-handedly transformed surfing from an underground activity into a popular obsession. In the early sixties surfing was to explode with heaps of B-movies and surf music led by bands like the Beach Boys spreading the word like wildfire. During the 1960s there was lots of advances in surfing including competition surfing, innovations in boards and the advent of professional surfing. Two innovations - the short board and the leash made the sport into the extreme one that it is viewed today. In the 1980s the introduction of the thruster, the three finned short board, allowed surfers to perform manoeuvres that were until then unimaginable and confined to skateboarders on dry land.

So Many Scooters, So Little Time

When Razor Scooters first burst on to the scene in 2000, many thought they would disappear into oblivion never to be heard from again. Instead, a whole new category of kids' recreational gear was born.

The original Razor Scooter is still Razor USA's best selling item, though the company has launched a dizzying array of new products such as the "PowerWing Caster Scooter", the "RipStik", the e-Series Electric Scooters, the "Dirt Quad", "Scream Machine", "Pocket Mod" and many others.

Because of its broad appeal, the "Pro Model" Scooter is a great ride for kids young and skateboarding tips - even college kids use it as a commuter vehicle between classes.

If your interest is primarily transportation, then you'll want to check out Razor's line of larger scooters - the "Cruiser" Scooter and the "A5 Luxe" Scooter. The "Cruiser" Scooter is cool because its larger skateboarding tips deck gives it a classic feel and can accommodate bigger feet.

How Things Change - The Evolution of Skating

With a history that can be traced back as far as 1760, skating has arguably enjoyed longevity as a popular pastime amongst children and adults alike.

We explore the evolution of skates, starting as a very basic patented roller skate and progressing into new waves such as the skateboard and its latest counterpart.

Roller Skates

The first patented roller skates were not very popular. The invention, skateboarding tips Belgian John Joseph Merlin, was soon out phased by a newer and more sophisticated model.

In 1863 James Pimpton developed the 'rocking' skate which provided a vast improvement on the roller skate, allowing the skater to turn. Skaters could turn around corners and calve turns, something which was unimaginable on its predecessor. From the 'rocking' skate, roller skating was born.

What started out as a backyard activity has now developed to become a fully fledged a globally recognised sport, even bearing its own Roller Skating Association. The Roller Skating Association, which started out in 1937, works to educate people about roller skating and is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Playing a pivotal role in many competitive sports, such as roller hockey, roller skating is no longer viewed as a simple pastime. Roller skating has even featured in the Olympics, making its debut in 1992. Other competitive sports to feature roller skates include speed skating, figure skating, roller derby. As well as sports, roller skates have been used in global stage shows, such as Starlight Express and made a huge splash in the disco era of the 1980s.

Skateboarding

The exact birth date of skateboarding is not known, it is believed to have emerged in the late 1940s to early 1950s. Regarded as a dry land alternative for surfers, the first skateboards started as wooden boxes or boards with roller skate wheels attached to the bottom. The boxes then developed to become planks and then further evolved to become pressed layers of wood manufactured by companies. In this era, skateboarding often took the name of 'Sidewalk Surfing'.

With advances in technology and manufacturing improving the skateboard year on year, Skateboarding grew in popularity. The mid 1970s saw a big peak in popularity for skateboarding and then again in the 1980s.

Today's skateboarders are predominantly street skaters. Most boards are between seven and eight inches wide and 30 to 32 inches long. The wheels are made of hard polyurethane and are small in size to make the board lighter and the wheel's inertia quicker. There are a reported 18.5 million skateboarders in the world, 85% of these are under the age of eighteen

Freeline Skates

Freeline Skates offer the latest development in the world of skating. The skates are dual independent skates that combine elements of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding.

Freeline Skates offer a new experience for gadget lovers to demonstrate their boarding skills by transferring them to a new manner of riding. The skates provide a challenging and innovative way to carve big turns and invent new tricks, whether it's on the flat, on a hill or on the ramps.

Freeline Skates are ridden in a similar manner to that of a surfboard/snowboard, with riders shifting their weight from heel to toe to skateboarding tips direction allowing them to carve smooth 's' turns while riding downhill.

The skates are independent, but unlike skates and blades they are not strapped to the rider's feet, this offers an added bonus to riders by allowing them to achieve high levels of traction on the flats and uphill providing a wide range of locations that are suitable for skates.
